Do you have Dust Mites? Yes, you do. But do you have a Dust Mite Allergy?

Many of us suffer with allergies. Obviously plants, animals, foods can cause reactions. But most do not think of the bed as being an allergen superhighway. One of the most common allergens out there affect millions of sufferers and they are having a party in your bed!

Humans will spend about a third of their lives sleeping. Our beds contain massive amounts of Dust Mites. These microscopic bottom-of-the-food-chain pests feed on dead skin cells we slough off in our sleep. They patiently wait on your return each night for an endless feeding buffet.

And why are we allergic to them? This is really, really gross, but it is their excrement that we inhale. Yep, their poop, that triggers the allergic reaction. Time to get rid of these microscopic monsters!

Can we totally eliminate these allergens? No, but we can certainly minimize them. And starting with your very own bed is a great way to ensure better sleep and therefore more productive living.

Following the steps below will make a huge difference to those with a Dust Mite Allergy. First, find a safe, ‘Green’, and all-natural pest control product line you are comfortable with. Be sure there are clear instructions!

Step 1 – Laundry!

Wash your sheets and other linens using the hottest possible settings in the washer and dryer (without harming your belongings!). Add a ¼ cup of your favorite all-natural pest control product to the fabric softener cycle. (Unless otherwise instructed.)

Wash your sheets at least once a week and the remaining linens (comforter, bed spread, etc.) at least once a month.

Step 2 – Treat your Space

When you make your bed with the newly cleaned sheets, lightly spray your favorite all-natural pest control product on the mattress, on the box springs, and on any cloth or upholstery that surrounds your bed. Head boards, dust ruffles, pillows, etc. can be lightly sprayed to treat for dust mites. It doesn’t need to be heavy – just a light misting is all you need to control dust mites and their eggs.

Step 3 – Bathe

It is a tremendous benefit to bathe before bed. And be sure to wear clean jammies too! Add a ¼ cup of your favorite all-natural pest control product to the fabric softener cycle when you wash your pajamas.

Following these steps will greatly reduce the Dust Mite Allergy issues in your home. You’ll sleep better, breathe more easily and awake more refreshed. Good luck!
